Hayley graduated with a BS in Cellular and Molecular biology from Western Washington University in 2011. Post-graduation she worked as a Research Technician in Dr. James Zimring’s lab studying transfusion biology using transgenic mouse models for 5 years. During her time as a technician, she became increasingly interested in the field of immunology as well as increasingly more allergic to mice. In the fall of 2016, she started as a graduate student in the Molecular and Cellular biology program at the University of Washington with the goal of focusing on immunology and switching from mouse to human model systems for research.  She joined Jessica Hamerman’s lab summer of 2017. In the Hamerman lab her research focuses on understanding the role of IgA anti-nuclear antibodies in the context of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). She will soon be submitting a publication on her work and will be defending her thesis this upcoming summer 2023. Outside of lab work Hayley is interested in milky way photography and birding/bird photography.
