Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason (BRI) welcomes two community leaders to its board of directors. Joining the BRI board of directors is David Friedenberg, managing director at The Commerce Bank and Trish Markey, Seattle philanthropist and non-profit community leader. The appointment is a three year term.
David Friedenberg began his banking career in 1963, serving the Seattle area since 1973. In addition to Benaroya Research Institute, Friedenberg has served in a number of community service positions including posts on the board of PONCHO and The Hope Heart Institute. He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Seattle.
Friedenberg holds a bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and a master’s in business from New York University. He was an officer in the United States Navy for six years.
For over 10 years, Trish Markey has been actively involved in our local community. Currently she sits on the Seattle Aquarium board of directors, the advisory board for First Class Education, the development committee for Holy Rosary School in West Seattle and the major gift committee for the Holy Rosary School three-year capitol campaign. She has chaired and co-chaired numerous community events including the annual BRI Illuminations benefit, the Jungle Party for Woodland Park Zoo, the Otter Open Golf Tournament for Seattle Aquarium Society and Splash! Signature Gala for Seattle Aquarium Society.
Markey is a graduate of San Diego State University and holds a bachelor of science in speech communications.

Virginia Mason Medical Center, founded in 1920, is a non-profit comprehensive regional health care system that combines a primary and specialty care group practice of more than 400 physicians with a 336-bed acute care Seattle hospital.
